WK2 Project 2

Korea, such a beautiful land but on the inside scared, hungry people live. The way of the government in Korea scares some so much they live in fear of what will happen to themselves and their families if such a simple crime of recording a video of the lands can cause them to be killed. After watching the video of Korea I couldn’t believe the way the government controls so much of the country and their people. It saddened me to see the starving children on the streets of Korea, some the same age as my youngest that is 3. In this country the people seem to be in fear of their government and the harsh punishments for something that we would see as an everyday way of life.

The message of my flyer is more aimed toward the children of Korea. To take the money that is being dropped and help stop the hunger of small children throughout the country. This type of flyer would be inspirational to get people to get together and help these children who don’t have families or homes. The target audience would be children and young teens whom are orphans, as well as people who are in the position to help children in these horrible situations.

I find it to be harsh they are not allowed to watch any type of foreign television or media. Their government is the only source of media that it is allowed to have access that is through North Korean State TV along with other pieces of government propaganda. Even though illegal the Frontline report stated that over half of the population engages in watching the illegal media risking their freedom and maybe even their lives. Millions engage in listening to illegal foreign radio because they are so curious to what life is like outside of Korea. Within the last several years cell phones have been allowed into Korea, but with all things there is a catch, the cell phone can only be used to make calls within the country. Many in Korea modify their cell phones to make calls outside of Korea, which is a violation of the Korean law.

Week 4 Project: MultiMedia Career Advice Blog

In November 2012 I started my first class at Full Sail University to obtain my Bachelor’s of Science in Media Communications. Next month in May, I will be a graduate of the program. Over the last 4 years I have strengthened my skills needed to be successful in the industry. During my time at Full Sail University I won 3 Course Directors Awards for my hard work and dedication to the courses.

I have always had a love of photography, writing, and being able to work on computers with online platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc. The Media Communications degree is what I would call the Swiss Army knife of degrees. I call it this because we went into depth about Photojournalism, Public Relations, Editing, Content Developing, Social Media Coordinating, and much more. You can see the different career opportunities available to someone with a Bachelor’s of Science in Media Communications here.

Full Sail given me the opportunity to learn several different skills and put them into what I love most Journalism and Photography. If I had no contacted Full Sail in 2012 I would not know what I know now or have the skills to be able to get a job doing what I love most.

I have created a Professional Portfolio that includes some of the work I created during my time as a student. My professional Resume is also included on the portfolio for potential employers.

Full Sail has also prepared me to be ready for interviews by teaching me how to gather important information on a company before going in to interview with them for a position. These are skills that I knew before but now I can say that my basic interviewing skills I once had are now more professional and I have the education to back up my experience. I was shown how to put my resume and cover letter together so it wasn’t too busy or long.

Interviewing can be nerve wrecking for most. I can honestly say when I was hit with the question “What do you know about our company?” I would be speechless, now I know to do my homework on the company before interviewing with them so I am not answering with “I’m not sure can you tell me a little about the company.”

Tip 1: Maintain a professional atmosphere when interviewing with a company. Dress professionally and be sure to bring in a copy of your resume for the interviewer.

Tip 2: Do you homework, research the company get background information on them and find out what it is they do there. Don’t walk in unprepared for any question they may throw at you.

Tip 3: Maintain great eye contact with your interviewer. This is something that shows the employer you’re serious about the position with their company and it shows them you’re confident in yourself. Ask questions show the employer you mean business.

This article is something I have read recently several times before interviewing with a company.

I am very blessed that I had the opportunity to attend Full Sail University. I was able to get to know several instructors who pushed me to do my best. I also met many students who I will network with for years to come. It was hard work but I wouldn’t be where I am today had I not attended Full Sail.

MCBS Portfolio Project Submission: My MultiMedia Video

I am seeking a 1 star rating for my MCBS MultiMedia Video I created in Portfolio 5. I used iMovie, Photoshop, and GarageBand to create this project. I enjoyed making this video I will be able to use it for my website and I already have it on my portfolio.

Week 4 Reflection: RISE Self-Evaluation

First off I would like to start off by saying how much I enjoyed working in this class and being able to get familiar with companies in my area that I could one day possibly work for. I started this class pumped and ready to learn everything I could being this is one of my last classes before I graduate. I really enjoyed working on the Mock Interview I think this may have been one of my favorite assignments during the course. However, I wish I would've had more time to spend on it after watching some of the other classmates interviews there were somethings I would like to have changed.

For example, I reviewed Leah's interview I thought the idea of wearing the two different outfits to play the role as interviewer and interviewee was a brilliant idea. This is something I wish I would have thought of.

As I worked on some of my projects I wish we had more than 4 weeks in the course so we would've had more time to go more into depth with the different activities. The company I used most this month was Longview News-Journal and this is a company I really would like to obtain a position with one day. I would've liked to get more information on the company and been able to see if they had any current positions open that I could apply for. I know someone personally who works for the company on the sales side. As I would want to work with editing or the journalism part I think with her being an employee there and knowing me well this would help my chances of landing an interview and possibly a position with the company.

I will be taking a lot of the things we learned this month and putting them into play in the near future as I start looking for a career. Career Development really hasn't reached out to me at all. My husband is a Full Sail Alumni and they never contacted him once and when he would contact them he wouldn't get a response so I feel they could strenghten this area for the online students. I am going to keep reaching out to them and making an effort to work with them until I land a position.

It has been a long 4 years for me at Full Sail and I am excited it is time to part ways, I plan on achieving great things with my degree. Thank you for your time this month, I enjoyed the class!

Week 4 Reflection: RISE Peer Review

Hello Leah,

I really enjoyed your Mock Interview it was put together nicely. The place you chose to record was professional and the lighting was nice. At first, I was a little confused as to why you were wearing two different outfits then I realized you were playing the interviewer part with a different outfit on, that is a brilliant idea I wish I would have done that myself. Is Ignite USA a big corporation? I haven’t heard of the company before they sound like a great company to choose. Are they someone local to your area? I am really interested in learning more about the company.

Your tone in the video is awesome! You sound upbeat and exciting about interviewing with the company. By your interview I can tell you did a lot of research on the company so you were prepared for any questions they threw at you about the company and their background. Normally, I would have something to suggest but I really thought your video was awesome I couldn’t pick out anything I would suggest for you to do differently, except I might have let a little natural light inside to help make it a little brighter. Other than that I think it was immaculate. I can defiantly tell you spent a great amount of time rehearsing and putting together everything for your Mock Interview.

If I were the interviewer for this company you would defiantly be one of the top candidates for the position for which you were applying. I would like to congratulate you on your graduation this month and I wish you the best on your career path from here on out. I know by watching this you will be very successful. Here’s to a happy, successful future to you! I enjoyed having the chance to review your work.

Kindly,
Mandee Rodriguez

Week 2 Analysis: Build Your Target List

The purpose of this assignment was to see what was around me for a potential job and to see if I have any Network working for any of the companies I chose. one company I chose that I would really love to work for one day my mother works for.

My target list was a total of 10 media companies throughout a near by city called Longview. When you click on each item it will give you their contact information and website. Subject: Just Graduated!

Good Afternoon Network,

I hope this email finds you well. For the past 2 years I have been working on my degree at Full Sail University, I now have graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Media Communications. As you know, this is a huge advancement for my career and future in the industry. I am excited to start my journey as a professional in the Media industry as a Media professional.

I have been looking at several companies during my time as a student that I would like to work for.  I wanted to reach out to you and get some insight on the companies I have had my eye on over the past few years. I understand that you are currently working in the Media industry and I was wondering if you would be someone I could use as a referral for a position I am applying for with your company? Longview News Journal, Media Quest, Inc., and Encore Multimedia are all companies I would love to have the pleasure of working with. I truly believe I would be an asset to your company. I have included my LinkedIn profile below. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Week 1 Project: A Tailored Resume

I originally had another resume completed the one I currently use for any job I apply to. However, I wasn't feeling it so I ended up changing up everything on the resume and making it more simple and easy to read. My first resume was 3 pages so I took a lot of my job history off of it and only included the jobs I have had for the past 5 years.

Week 1 Exploration: What Can I Do With My Degree

With my education at Full Sail University coming to an end, in addition to my family and I taking the first steps to our new lives with new degrees back in Texas. Fear still creeps in at times, like all new things it’s scary. Especially, when it came down to my first interning position for a hip-hop and crump dancing company. To regress, my fear was not of how I was unprepared in my work. It was out of how well I was able to combine what I learned at school with what I knew on my own work and social knowledge seasoned with the lessons learned working with my husband in his DIY punk/ska music business. I can say that working at his label I learned that wearing many hats in a business is far more efficient when it comes to businesses dealing with the entertainment. Today, I’m working with Nicole Conn Films, LLC as an Editor I find myself dealing with event planning, journalism, project management, being somewhat of a personal assistant for Nicole and her partner Sue.
